Welcome to Fran Mayer Counselling

Supporting you through challenging times — and helping you feel confident again

How Counselling Can Help

Do you ever feel stuck — like you’re moving through life but not really connecting with it?

Perhaps you find yourself overthinking, feeling anxious, or wondering why things that seem simple for others can feel so overwhelming? Maybe you’ve always pushed yourself to cope, but it’s starting to feel harder to keep up.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many of the people I work with describe feeling exhausted by trying to manage everything, often while caring deeply for others and masking how hard things really feel.

For some, this can be linked to neurodiverse traits such as ADHD or autism, which can make everyday life — from decisions to routines — feel more demanding.

Would you like to:

  • Feel more confident and calm in yourself?
  • Understand why you react the way you do?
  • Find new ways to manage overwhelm and self-criticism?
  • Stop feeling like you have to hold everything together alone?

Counselling offers you space to pause, untangle what’s happening, and find your own way forward — at your pace, in a supportive and non-judgemental space.

I’m Fran, a therapeutic counsellor based in Ludlow, Shropshire, offering face-to-face counselling locally and online therapy across the UK. I support adults (18+) who are feeling anxious, stuck, or overwhelmed, helping them to make sense of their experiences and feel more connected to who they are.

My background includes roles in mental health services, including supporting individuals in a secure prison unit, which sparked my fascination with what shapes people’s lives. I’ve always been drawn to supporting others, and counselling felt like a natural path.

I work in a warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth way. I won’t judge or try to ‘fix’ you, but I will listen with care, help you make sense of what’s happening, and support you in finding your own way forward. I see the therapeutic relationship as central to growth and healing. Therapy doesn’t need to feel clinical — it can be human, supportive, and even include moments of humour and warmth.

"I visited Fran for counselling over a few months. She has a warm and welcoming manner, and I felt able to talk about a number of different worries. Fran was always kind, compassionate and understanding, and listened to carefully, without any judgement. She gave me the opportunity to talk openly, to reflect and to consider my problems from different perspectives. Most importantly, she helped me to see the progress that I was making. She supported me through a difficult time, and I am now facing life with a more hopeful outlook."

"Fran - thank you for everything you have done for me. Words cannot really express what a difference having therapy with you has made to my day-to-day life and general wellbeing."
