Welcome to Fran Mayer Counselling

Supporting you through challenging times — and helping you feel confident again

Counselling in Ludlow, Shropshire & Online Across the UK

How I Work

Choosing a counsellor can feel like a big decision.

You may be wondering what counselling will actually be like, whether you'll feel comfortable talking openly, or whether therapy is even the right step for you.

My aim is to provide a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk freely about whatever is important to you.

My Approach

I work in a person-centred and relational way.

This means I believe that many of our difficulties make sense when we understand them in the context of our life experiences, relationships and circumstances.

Rather than telling you what to do or offering quick fixes, I work alongside you to help you better understand yourself, your emotions and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Together, we can explore:

  • Anxiety and overwhelm
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Relationships and communication
  • Trauma and past experiences
  • Grief and loss
  • Identity and life transitions
  • ADHD and neurodivergence

What Sessions Are Like

Every client is different, so counselling is tailored to your individual needs.

Some sessions may focus on what's happening in your life right now. Others may involve exploring past experiences and understanding how they continue to affect you today.

There is no expectation that you have everything figured out before you begin. We work at your pace and focus on what feels most important to you.

ADHD & Neurodivergence

Alongside my general counselling practice, I have a particular interest in supporting adults who are exploring ADHD, autism and late-identified neurodivergence.

I have completed a Certificate in Adult ADHD and work in a neurodiversity-affirming way. You do not need a diagnosis to work with me.

A Little About Me

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked within mental health services, including supporting individuals in a secure prison setting.

Today, I work with adults both face-to-face and online, providing a space where they can feel heard, understood and supported.

  • My hope is that counselling feels like somewhere you don't need to have all the answers — just somewhere you can begin.
  • Feel more connected to who you are

Come As You Are framed quote

Testimonial

"The changes I have noticed are profound. I understand much more about how past events shaped my reactions and behaviours, and I approach life now with a calmer, more compassionate, and more self aware mindset. The changes are not just in my thinking; they affect how I feel, how I act, and how I relate to the world around me. Therapy did not just help me through one situation; it gave me tools and understanding that continue to shape my life in such positive ways".

Testimonial

"Last year I felt like I was drifting and waiting for my 'bus' to come along. This year am still waiting for my 'bus' but have some ideas of destinations, last year I didn't know what destination to go in.

I think the main thing that stood out was you trying to keep me on track and being positive about doing things I can do for myself that are within my control".

Testimonial

"It’s hard to put into words how the work I did with you connected with me & my needs at the time and still appreciate.

Our first meeting still sticks with me- I was a mess and couldn’t control my feelings of failure and complete despair, you made it feel ok to talk out loud to talk about my sadness my loneliness.

I really miss our talks and you’ve helped me accept that I can get up and tackle my demons".
